We are excited to announce IUCN Red List’s significant updates to the status of sea turtle species and populations in 2019.
2018 Regional Reports Now Available
In 2017 the IUCN-SSC MTSG launched a new regional reporting initiative that aims to harness the collective power of our global expert members to compile and summarize the most relevant data for conservation of sea turtles in each of the 10 MTSG regions and their respective marine turtle Regional Management Units (RMUs).
New Loggerhead Red List Assessments Published
The MTSG completed a new Red List assessment for the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) at both the global and subpopulation levels that is now available on the IUCN website.
Hawaiian Green Turtle Red List Assessment Accepted
The Red List Assessment of the Hawaiian subpopulation of green turtles (Chelonia mydas) has been accepted by IUCN.
MTSG Develops Linkage with Wildlife Health Specialist Group
The Marine Turtle Specialist Group (MTSG) recently linked up with the Wildlife Health Specialist Group (WHSG) and appointed MTSG and WHSG member Dr. Thierry Work to serve as a link between the two groups.
